Gulu District is the birthplace of Alice Auma, a spirit-medium and Joseph Kony. It has been the location of
the fighting between the Ugandan army and the Lord’s Resistance Army since 1986.
More than 90% of residents were forced to emigrate to concentration camps near towns and markets.
