The World of Wonders & Spirits

The Bible includes some descriptions about evil spirits (demons). Verses 1 through 20 in Chapter 5 of Mark describe a demon-possessed person. "who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones." (Verses 3 to 5)

There was a movie titled "The Exorcist". In the movie, a girl was possessed by an evil spirit, which caused various weird phenomena. No one could find any effective solution. Finally, people tried to seek a solution from exorcism. This movie was made on what actually happened. But the story in the movie a bit differs from what actually took place. The truth is that the girl was released in the end, and the Catholic father was not killed. As a movie, it was adapted, but was made on what actually took place.

The Bible was written two thousand years ago. Even in the modern times with highly advanced natural science, the same things as those written at that time take place as unsolved phenomena, actually troubling many people. There are many wondered things in this world, but certain things are brought to light and understood when we turn our eyes to what the Bible call the spiritual world, taking us to understanding and then to solution.

The Bible does not say that evil spirits are the symbol of evilness, things, ornaments or the creation of man. On the contrary, it clearly says that evil spirits actually exist. They influence man and turn him aside from what he should originally be, taking him away from the right way (i.e., the way to walk with the Creator). When evil spirits cause problems to take place in our lives, they can always be solved by Jesus Christ. The Spirit of God delivers man from evil force (evil spirits).

The demon-possessed person in Chapter 5 of Mark (in the Bible "a man with an unclean spirit") was released by the Word of Jesus Christ. The Word cast out of him Legion (the name of the evil spirit). What did happen to him? Verse 15 of the chapter says, "Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid." The demon-possessed man regained his right mind. Jesus Christ says to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you." (Verse 19)

He had his family. The Bible does not say what caused him to fall into the worst condition (the demon-possessed condition), but just describes the fact that he had fallen into such a condition. He had gone away from his family and people, and dwelled in the tombs. Moreover, he could not control himself. We can imagine how happy he was when he regained his right mind and returned to his family. Jesus Christ pours His mercy upon us to the extent much greater than we expect.

There are many problems caused by evil spirits among those that we cannot believe are man-made problems. There are also many things caused by evil spirits among mental illnesses, physical illnesses, violent behavior, self-ruining behavior, etc. We should see such problems, phenomena and wonders in our times through the world of wonders and spirits described in the Bible.
